Modernizing Risk-Informed Decision Making in Wildland Fire Management
The Wildland Fire Management Research, Development and Application (WFM RD&A) program is currently in the process of modernizing a major application available to the Interagency Wildland Fire community in support of risk-Informed decision making through the development of the Wildland Fire Decision Support System (WFDSS) NextGen. WFDSS NextGen will be capitalizing on the lessons learned over the past 15 years to give users a clearer view of the Risk-Informed Decision Process.

- Scalable, Map-Focused, Intuitive: Enhanced user experience.
- Real-time Data & Services: Authoritative information for rapid decisions.
- Continuity with IFTDSS Risk Assessments
Status Updates and Important Dates:
- The Training (EDU) environment of WFDSS NextGen is live!
- Users can request roles through the Wildland Fire Application Portal (FAMAuth).
- The new Spatial Fire Planning Service is nearing publication.
- The planned date for full transition to WFDSS NextGen PROD for active fires is March 26, 2025.
- Classic will be made read-only at this time.
- Legacy data will continue to be processed.
